Mattel not only manufactures a wide range of Hot Wheels cars but racing tracks as well. You can purchase different types of track sets to create tracks for racing your cars by yourself or with friends.

Most people buy tracks along with their Hot Wheel cars so that they can play with them easily; however, you can also create different types of tracks using various segments, pieces and props.

However, in order to build tracks at home, you need to know the dimensions, i.e. the length and width. It will help you to easily build different types of tracks in the comfort of your home without compromising on space.

Hot Wheels tracks are typically 1 ½ inches wide and 20 inches long. The length can vary depending on which track you buy but the width should always be 1 ½ inches.

Lengths will vary a lot depending on which track you buy and also the purpose for the track. For example, straight tracks are typically 9, 12, or 20 inches long while curved track pieces will be much shorter.

There are some other things that are important to know about Hot Wheels tracks so be sure and read the rest of this article to learn more and to see what different length of tracks you can expect to find.

Important Hot Wheels Track Info

Hot Wheel tracks are made from high-quality plastic and you will normally have to purchase the car and track separately. However, if you purchase a track set, you might get one or two cars along with track pieces.

The tracks will normally not be assembled and you will get different road sections or segments in the set which you need to connect with each other.

There will be different types and sizes of road sections as mentioned above but the straight ones are normally only in the 9 inch, 12 inch, and 20 inch lengths.

Apart from that, you will also sometimes get superchargers (boosters) in the set. It is a battery-powered piece through which the car passes.

There are spinning wheels in the charger, which gives a boost to your car and makes them fly down the track under their own power.

Hot Wheels have hard-plastic tires and as there is not much friction, the car runs smoothly along the track.

You will also get different types of other props to build the track depending on the specific track set that you buy.

You can add additional jump pieces to your track to try various stunts with your Hot Wheels car on the track.

The original Hot Wheels track is bright orange in color but apart from that, you will also get other segments in different colors. However, even until today the majority of the tracks have the same orange color.

Hot Wheels Track Length And Width

Now that you know exactly what the Hot Wheels track is let’s find out more about the length and width of the track.

When you purchase a Hog Wheels track, you will be able to choose from a whole host of tracks so you can build different types and sizes of the track with the pieces. Because of that, there is no standard dimension of the tracks once it is put together.

The length and width of the completed track depends on the track set or on the number of pieces you have. If you have multiple track segments, you can make different sizes of tracks with it.

However, there are some specifics when it comes to the dimensions of individual track segments. Here are some of the most common track segments and their length and width.

Straight Track Size:

These are the most common track pieces and you will find these track segments in all of the track sets.

Apart from that, you can also purchase them separately as needed. As the name tells you, it is a straight track or road segment.

• Length:

This type of track is available in 3 basic sizes with those being 9-inch, 12-inch and 20-inch. Most of the straight track segments come in these sizes. You can connect them with one another to increase the length of the racing track.

• Width:

Hot Wheels track is always 1.5 inches wide as it is the standard size of the track. All types of Hot Wheels tracks are 1.5 inches wide as it is designed in a standard size so that you can race all types of Hot Wheels cars on it.

Curved Track Size:

This is another important piece of the Hot Wheels track. As the name goes, this type of track segment is curved. If you want to turn your track, you can connect the straight track segment with a curved one.

• Length:

The curved track is available in two different sizes. The most common sizes are 6-inch and 12-inch. Most of the curved track segments come in these sizes.

• Width:

Like the straight track, this type of track also comes in the same width. The track is 1.5 inches wide. However, they have higher edges so that the car doesn’t fall off the track during a sharp turn and that might make the track look wider.

Booster Size:

As there are different types of boosters available with Hot Wheels tracks, there is no standard size when it comes to length. You can opt for small as well as larger high-power boosters.

Again, the width is 1 ½ inches so it’s compatible with all Hot Wheels cars.

What is a Hot Wheels Track Set?

A Hot Wheels Track Set is a set with nothing but track packs. You will get a complete set of track segments, along with boosters, jumps, cars (sometimes), connectors and other accessories.

If you purchase a set, you can build a particular type and design of Hot Wheels track.

There are different types of track sets available for racing your cars with some of the most popular Hot Wheels track sets being:

  • Criss Cross Crash
  • Triple Track Twister
  • Straight Track
  • Spin Storm Playset
  • Total Turbo Takeover

Each type of Hot Wheel track set comes in different sizes and dimensions. You need to check the size of the set before you purchase it, as some sets are not fit for small homes.

If you don’t want to purchase sets, you can purchase individual track pieces or track builder pieces. This way, you can use the pieces to imagine and build your own track.

Which Is The Longest Hot Wheels Track?

In 2020, a new Guinness record was made by the Fitzy & Wippa Show. They created the longest Hot Wheel track by connecting multiple straight tracks, curved tracks and boosters.

The length of the track was 751.13 m (2464 feet and 4 inches). The width of the track was 1.5 inches as per Hot Wheels standard.

This clearly shows that the length of Hot Wheels tracks can be extremely flexible as you can use connectors to connect different pieces of track segments and make any size of track that you like.

However, the width of the track will always be the same.
